Willow Park School

Kindergarten

November 2012 Newsletter

We had a wonderful October learning about the fall season, our senses and pumpkins.  October has been a very busy month with settling into routines, getting to know each other better and lots of activities.  Of course, Halloween has been the highlight!  Thank you to all the parents who were able to come and assist with dressing students and helping with the games and activities at the Halloween party.  Extra hands are always greatly appreciated.

Our theme for this month will be Oceans.  We will focus a lot of our learning areas around this topic.

Combined Class:

On Thursday, November 15, Mrs. Hannon’s class will have school.

All thre Willow Park Kindergarten classes are combining that day to take advantage of 2 in-school field trips. A presentation of “I am Unique” and “Healthy Me.” One will be in the morning and the other in the afternoon.  Extra parent volunteers to assist throughout the day  would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to help, please let your child’s teacher know.

Picture Day:

Willow Park School’s Picture Retake Day is on Wednesday, November 14th, 2012.  This is a one day event.  Therefore, the Thursday class will not be in school.  For this reason, we ask parents who want picture retakes done in the Tuesday/Thursday class to bring their child to school on Wednesday, November 14th, 2012 for 8:45ish to have their picture retake taken.  This will be the last picture day in the school until the end of the year.

Report Cards:

Report cards will be going home on the following days.

Mrs. Hannon’s (Monday/Wednesday class) will get their Report Cards on Wednesday, November 28th, 2012.

Book Orders:

Book Orders are due on the following day

Mrs. Hannon’s (Monday/Wednesday class) book orders are due Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

Money:

If you are sending money with your child to school for any reason, e.g. milk orders, popcorn, hot lunch, book orders, please put the money in an envelope or zip lock bag well marked with your child’s name/class, how much money is enclosed and what the money is for.

Bread Making Sessions:

On December 5th and December 6th, the Bread Lady will be in our classes teaching the Kindergarten students the process of bread making from field to the bread.  For this presentation, we need 1 adult per 6 students (6 adults volunteers per class).  If you are able to come and assist the Bread Lady in helping a small number of students make bread (instructions/materials supplied). Please let your child’s teacher know.  If we don’t get the volunteers, we will have to cancel.  This has been a very good presentation in the past and we would hate to have to cancel.

Clothing:

Please ensure that all pieces of your child’s clothing are labeled with their first and last name.  Don’t forget their outdoor clothing (toque, mittens, gloves, scarves, hoodies, and boots)

Homework:

Attached is a homework activity called “I am Unique” for your child to complete and return to school by Thursday, November 15, 2012.
