LA - Halloween Story Plan
Your child has worked very hard on their Halloween story introduction.  Please have them read their introduction to you.  As they read it, help them change some of the descriptive words or juice up some of the descriptions by looking them up in a thesaurus.  We brainstormed a lot of scary words so most students used the same words throughout the classroom.  We want to build their vocabulary so, I suggest looking up some word in the thesaurus so your child's story sounds different then the rest of the class.

The following is the sample I gave them to work off of.  If it is highlighted yellow they had to pick their own descriptive word.  If it is highlighted blue they should have added their own idea.  Most boys switched the main character to a wizard instead of a witch, therefore changing the she to he etc..

A Long Halloween Night
There was once a rude witch whose name was Wicked Winnie.
She lived in her _spooky, haunted_ house with her thoughtful husband the wizard, Walter. One frightening, Halloween night, Winnie woke up earlier than usual.  Exhausted Walter was still fast asleep.  “I’ll go catch some green, slimy toads for tonight’s special Halloween spell.”  I’m sure kind Walter will make my delicious supper by the time I get back.”  Off she flew on her sparkly, black broomstick to catch the green slippery toads.
